Başak Okay Tekir,

Hello, I’m Başak Okay, a designer based in Istanbul. Basako is my personal design portfolio, bringing together architectural lighting, product design and visual identity.

I studied Industrial Design at Yeditepe University and completed my master’s degree in Design Innovation at the Glasgow School of Art.

​

For nearly a decade, I worked at Planlux Lighting Design, developing lighting concepts for hotels, retail spaces, offices and sports facilities. Since 2021, I have continued my architectural lighting practice in collaboration with Well Lighting Design.

​

Studio Okay! is my lighting and objects brand, growing out of Basako Okay Concept Design. The collection has its own home at studio-okay.com, where you can explore the products and enquire about pricing and ordering. My pendant design Cuplight received a LIT Lighting Design Award in 2024.

Across these disciplines, I explore how light, material and form can become part of everyday life, creating objects and spaces with a clear purpose and character.

​

Alongside my design practice, I teach design project and lighting courses at Haliç University, guiding students from their first ideas through to prototypes.
